Jon Shaw | on Tumblr (Canada)

The work of Canadian artist Jon Shaw explores the processes of deconstruction and assemblage, informed by his experience as a graphic designer. Using a series of expressive and uninhibited paint, collage and texture applications, Jon creates a loose and abstract structure upon which to assemble detailed ink drawings. He selectively interpret and rework different layers until they are harmoniously integrated. “This is the most satisfying component of my work - manipulating various materials and layers until they reach that special moment of completion that balances expression, representation, abstraction and detail”. Jon obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Mount Allison University in 2008. He currently lives and works in Vancouver to develop his studio practice in a new creative environment.

Origami 41 Origami 42 Origami 43 Origami 44

Origami is a series of 44 digital abstracts.

The idea was to capture the beauty of origami through focusing on the intersections of lines and points of contact. Taking away the focus of origami’s purpose of a final creation and focusing on the beauty of the act of creating itself. There are no swans here or frogs or anything else that may be an origami creation.
